Hello Kitty Turns 35

While most cats have nine lives, the beloved Hello Kitty brand has quite a few more to cheer about. What began in 1974 with a coin purse has blossomed into a Hello Kitty phenomenon, with the meow meister's little face appearing on everything from stationery and toys to apparel and jewelry.

To celebrate Hello Kitty's 35th anniversary, Sanrio Co. is launching a full slate of festivities and new product offerings from selected retailers.

The worldwide theme for the event is "Hello Kitty Colors": red for friendship, pink for cute, yellow for heartful, green for wish and lavender for sweet. The message of each color will be reflected on her trademark bow.

"Hello Kitty colors the world and captures the hearts and imaginations of so many people," said Janet Hsu, President of Sanrio Global Consumer Products. "The theme of Hello Kitty's Anniversary is inspired by her legacy and the loving qualities that have resonated with fans from around the world for the past 35 years."

While fans will have to wait until the fall for the new Hello Kitty Colors merchandise to hit shelves, there are plenty of offerings right here on Jewelry.com

In 2007, Kimora Lee Simmons launched a Hello Kitty luxury jewelry line with our partnering retailer, Zales, which features the famous feline set in white and black diamonds, pink sapphires and gold galore.
