When hockey's biggest hunk pops the question, there's definitely no shortage of 'ice'. Check out the huge diamond rock spotted on Carrie Underwood's ring finger last night!

Celebrity engagement rings are always fun to gawk at - from Ivanka Trump's cushion-cut stunner to J-Lo's infamous pink diamond.

The latest icy entry on the scene belongs to country music phenom, Carrie Underwood, who flashed her new diamond engagement ring last night in Ottowa as her hockey-player fiance, Mike Fisher, went to work against the Boston Bruins.

"It's true. We're both obviously excited and very happy," Fisher, 29, told People when asked about the engagement. "I'm not sure exactly when (the wedding will take place)."

No word yet on the diamond specifics (other than: "It's BIG"), but rumors were flying that a black diamond might be the way Underwood would go since she touted the stone on her blog this week.

According to Carrie, black diamond rings "bestow a fresh attribute to conventional jewelry, and at the same time, they're as attractive and every bit graceful as any other diamond."

We couldn't agree more. In fact, non-traditional engagement rings - from colored diamonds to more affordable gemstone styles - have been a trend to watch for several years now. Particularly in this economy, using an alternative stone can both make a personal statement and fit tighter budgets.
