Jewelry Trends Emerge From Italy

Every year, the Vicenza Fair brings buyers from around the world together to view some of the hottest designs coming from Italy's top creative minds. With more than 1500 exhibitors and most of the major department stores, independent jewelers, and manufacturers present and accounted for, the taste makers were out in full force.

According to National Jeweler, designers focused on expanding last year's lines with nature, floral and geometric shapes dominating the landscape. Butterfly styles are still popular with over-sized rings and pave designs making a strong showing.

While the statement necklace and ring continue to be big sellers, Italian designers are focusing on the statement earring for 2010, a look that has already manifested itself on the Golden Globes red carpet this year.

Yellow gold remains the metal of choice, with silver making a surprising appearance based on continued demand from US consumers.

Many designers revealed that Baselworld, the next big jewelry fair on the calendar (March 18th in Basel, Switzerland), promises to reveal most of the new designs for buyers and fans, so stay tuned.
