Diamond jewelry over color, silver over gold, whispers over statements - see who wowed and who whimpered on Oscar night.

The 2010 Academy Awards left many jewelry lovers wanting more this year, as Hollywood's best and blingiest opted for more understated sparkle than in years past. Gone are Angelina's outrageous emeralds and the bodacious bib necklaces of 2009 - instead, we were treated with tasteful studs and clusters, layered cuffs, new statement makers - and of course - a few lingering diamond divas to satisfy our craving for carat count.

Subtle Sparklers

With silvery shimmer ruling many of the gown choices this year, stars like Sandra Bullock in Marchesa and Neil Lane and Jennifer Lopez in Armani Prive and Cartier opted for slivers of sparkle on their ears instead of a big diamond look.

Cuff Queens

Layered cuffs continue to trend big, with fashion icon Sarah Jessica Parker causing a stir with her Chanel Couture frock, outrageous bun and Fred Leighton bracelets (featuring a 1950s diamond swirl bracelet, cognac diamond flexible bracelet, rose-cut diamond bracelet in platinum and sapphire and diamond wave bangle bracelet).

Statement Makers

Newcomer, Carey Mulligan, wowed the crowd with her Fred Leighton diamond shoulder duster earrings and her unique black Prada gown featuring metallic knives and forks. Maggie Gyllenhaal dared to wear a print on the carpet and won big with her blue Dries Van Noten frock and diamond and sapphire Fred Leighton jewels. And Zoe Saldana shocked with this couture creation and a platinum and amethyst gemstone Lorraine Schwartz cocktail ring.

Diamond Divas

Oscar night wouldn't be complete without body guard-worthy diamond looks, and Mariah Carey (Chopard), Kate Winslet (Tiffany), Helen Mirren (Chopard) and Mariska Hargitay (Fred Leighton) didn't disappoint. Between the four of them, they brought nearly 500 carats of icy bling to the carpet for our gawking pleasure. Nice work, ladies.
