2010 Oscar Jewelry Predictions

What diamond designs will rule the red carpet on Sunday? Will there be a rainbow of color or a sea of black and white? See what the trendsetters are saying about jewelry fashion's biggest night.

Jewelry fashion during Awards Season culminates in one glorious evening - the Oscars - and the fashion set is already predicting the trends we're likely to see this Sunday.

"I think this year at the Oscars, as we normally see, it's going to be lots of classic, old Hollywood glamour," predicts Francesca Ferrante from the Diamond Information Centre. "Whether its big statement earrings or a couple of bracelets layered together, the diamonds are going to be substantial but still that simplistic beauty that we always see. Each year at the Oscars there is normally four hundred million dollars worth of diamond jewellery. That's a lot of carats per star."

Last year color ruled in the guise of stunning emerald jewelry on Angelina Jolie and statement pieces on stars like Amy Adams. This year, color is back again but with a slightly different spin.

"One of the biggest trends we are going to see on the red carpet is color," Lindsay Meyer from Building Communications told the Associated Press. "We will see a lot of blues a lot of greens. There are some great options available from KWIAT. They feature some amazing vintage designs with sapphire and ruby."

Another trend to watch is jewelry without the precious gems that add both weight and worry. Some celebs want a big look but don't want to be responsible for millions of dollars in diamonds, so jewelers like Harry Winston and Swarovski are offering stunning costume looks in their preview shows, according to the Los Angeles Times.

"Because the pieces aren't made from precious stones, they can really pile on the sparkly stuff to make some pretty creative pieces," blogger Melissa Magsaysay remarked.
