The
diamonds have barely dimmed from
last weekend's royal wedding
extravaganza in Sweden, but that didn't stop HRH Prince Albert II of Monaco
from giving the world another betrothal to get excited about.
The insufferable 50-year-old bachelor announced his engagement to South African beauty and former Olympic swimmer, Charlene Wittstock, this week with an official portrait that shows off a one whopper of a diamond engagement ring.
People Magazine reports the rock was created by Parisian jewelry house, Maison Repossi, and features a pear-shaped center diamond set in gray gold and embellished with round diamond brilliants.
Diamond Information Center expert Francesca Ferrante told StyleList: "The center stone looks to be about 3 carats and the estimated worth of the ring is at least $100,000. This is truly a regal and royal diamond that is fit for a princess."
Prince Albert told the press there will be two ceremonies sometime next summer; a civil service inside the Prince's palace, and a larger, religious ceremony in Monaco's Notre Dame of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral. The latter ceremony will be televised.
The event will mark the first marriage of a Monaco Prince in over 50 years - the last being Albert's famous father, Prince Rainier, to Hollywood icon Grace Kelly in April 1956.
