Smithsonian Makes Jewelry for the Masses

The world's largest museum recently launched a jewelry line inspired by their storied gem collection. Get in on the stately sparkle!

With both the Hope Diamond and the Wittelsbach Blue Diamond in their coffers, the storied Smithsonian Institution has plenty of sparkle to influence their own recently launched jewelry line.

Partnering with shopping juggernaut, QVC, the museum debuted a line of earrings, rings and bracelets last week - all inspired by specific Smithsonian jewelry pieces and their large collection of gemstones and mineral specimens.

The jewels that make up "The Smithsonian Institution - National Gem Gallery" are now available on QVC.com, including a striking Judith Ripka blue topaz and diamond ring inspired by the 30.62-carat Blue Heart Diamond (pictured right), and a turquoise ring/earring duo inspired by the crown Napoleon gave to his second wife, Empress Marie-Louise.

The line is made out of semi-precious gemstones, diamonds and pearls set in sterling silver and/or 14kt gold, with prices ranging from $65 to $950.

Another Smithsonian jewelry offering set for a December launch will include a piece based on the 45.5-carat Hope Diamond, according to the Associated Press - just in time holiday gift lists!
