Pantone's Pink Prediction

The color authorities have spoken for Spring 2011. Is pink the new black? Is white the new beige? Is russet the new burnt sienna? Find out here!

To every thing there is a season. And to every fashionista, there is the Pantone Color Report - the authority on what hues are hot each season.

Pantone surveys the designers of New York Fashion Week after their ready-to-wear shows to collect feedback on prominent colors used, their color inspiration and color philosophy. And for Spring 2011? We're to expect the unexpected.

Exotic destinations like Africa, India, Peru, and Turkey inspire colors for spring 2011, as "designers continue to satisfy consumers' need to escape everyday challenges with intriguing color combinations that transport them to foreign lands," according to the report.

"The colors designers have chosen for the spring season present an interesting marriage of unexpected warm and cool tones," Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, told the press.

How does this translate to jewelry? The presence of both Silver Peony and Silver Cloud indicate white metals are making a comeback. And the tropical Blue Curacao tips its hat to 2010's color of the year, turquoise, a jewelry category that will have legs well into next year.

Pastels like Lavendar and Honeysuckle indicate semi-precious gems like tanzanite, amethyst and pink sapphires are hot in the gemstone world. And earth tones like Russet and Peapod give natural jewelry lovers hope that their wood bangles and beaded necklaces can continue to shine for the spring season.
